The Call for Papers for the Regional Scrum Gathering Portugal is officially open!

Many thanks to all ScrumRio’s organizers, volunteers, attendees, speakers and sponsors for the amazing opportunity to announce at Rio de Janeiro the 1st edition of the Regional Scrum Gathering  Portugal!

In a nutshell:

  • Where? Here, at the Scrum Alliance’s Indico Platform (see notes).
  • When? From June 25 until September 11, 2016.
  • Can I apply if I am not Portuguese? Yes, of course, and you should!
  • Target Language? English or Portuguese, your choice, but all materials should be in English.

Conference Theme

On the Regional Scrum Gathering® Portugal’s  1st edition, the main theme will be the Scrum Alliance’s Vision: “Transforming the World of Work”:

  • How to enable people’s autonomy, mastery and purpose?
  • How to foster continuous innovation to delight customers?
  • How to create value for society and enable sustainable growth?

Session Tracks

We will have 4 main tracks, featuring different elements in “Transforming the World of Work”:

  • Scaling Agile: what does it mean, what approach or patterns to use, what need to change when adopting agile at scale, real world cases, etc…
  • Scrum in Education: why and how Agile values, principles and practices can be adapted to Education to better develop our children’s knowledge and social skills, enhance their learning retention and promote higher achievement levels.
  • Agile Transformation: why and how Agile values, principles and practices can help organizations to achieve sustainable growth, delight customers through continuous innovation, and develop people’s capabilities.
  • Coaching & Facilitation: why and how coaching can help teams to achieve high performance, and individuals to increase their autonomy, achieve mastery and make work more meaningful.

Additionally, the conference reviewing team will accept great sessions on the following 4 knowledge areas:

  • Lean & Kaizen: why and how apply Lean Thinking and Kaizen Philosophy to maximize customer value while minimizing waste.
  • Engineering Practices: DevOps culture, mastery and best practices, Test-Driven Development, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Refactoring, Pair Programming, etc… You know the drill.
  • Product Development: what it takes to be an effective product owner and how to master product management to delight customers and take advantage of market opportunities.
  • Customer Development: how to discover and validate the right market for your idea, build the right product features that solve customers’ needs, and test your business model and tactics for acquiring and converting customers.

Session Levels

All sessions will be categorized as one of three levels. There should only be ONE primary target audience and should be carefully considered based on the content of your session:

  • Beginner (Shu, 守): Target audience is new to Scrum/Agile, tipically with 0-1 years of experience. Shu is about learning the system. It is about traditional wisdom, learning fundamentals & techniques.
  • Intermediate (Ha, 破): Target audience is intermediate Scrum/Agile practitioners, tipically with 1-3 years of experience. Ha is reached when you understand the system.
  • Advanced (Ri, 離): Target audience is experienced Scrum/Agile practitioners, with over 2 years of solid experience. Ri level means to forget the system. It’s about real advanced stuff. It is about transcendence: there are no techniques or proverbs, all things are natural, becoming one with spirit alone without clinging to forms.

Session Formats

We’re looking for proposals from people who are new to Scrum/Agile and those who are experienced:

  • Fast Talk (10 minutes): The Presenter will give a 7 minutes short presentation (roughly 21 slides x 20 seconds), followed by 3 minutes of Q&A.
  • Regular Talk (45 minutes): The Presenter(s) will speak for roughly 30 minutes (using slides or other visual aids), followed by 15 minutes of Q&A.
  • Case Study (45 minutes): The Presenter(s) will share a real world case study and her/his/their learning experiences for roughly 30 minutes, followed by 15 minutes of Q&A.
  • Masterclass (90 minutes): The Presenter will give a class of 90 minutes on a particular Scrum/Agile/Lean topic, where he is a widely recognized Expert by the Community.
  • Workshop (Half Day): The Presenter(s) will facilitate activities/exercises with the audience to illustrate learning and introduce discussion points, for roughly 2.5 hours.
  • Workshop (Full Day): The Presenter(s) will facilitate activities/exercises with the audience to illustrate learning and introduce discussion points, for roughly 6 hours.
