How we combine Agile values, principles and practices with innovative teaching methods to create a fun and effective learning environment in an Agile Methods Course.

Session Abstract:

In this session we will present how the combination of Agile values, principles and practices with innovative teaching methods like Project-Based Learning, Democratic Learning and Experiential Learning can be used to create a learning method that is useful and appreciated by the students.

We will also present the Four Agility Domain Area Model and how we used it to evaluate students learning.

Finally, to support this session, we will present the findings of a two-year study that resulted in the master’s thesis of one of the presenters.

Learning Objectives:

  • To show attendees that Agile Software Development can be adapted to innovative teaching strategies to create a fun and effective learning environment.
  • They will know how Agile can be used to instantiate social, experiential and democratic learning.
  • We hope that this session can instigate the attendees to think that there is another way of learning beyond the passive listening and answering a test at the end of semester.
